.Mr C. M. Bowden, who was Associate Minister of Finance from 1949 until his retirement from politics last year, has been appointed a director of the Bank of New Zealand.—(P.A.)
An announcement that the headmaster, Mr H. V. Searle. M.A. (Cambridge), M.Sc., F.G.S., wished to retire next year was made at the prizegiving ceremony of Nelson College on Thursday. Next year is the one hundredth anniversary of the foundation of Nelson College. New Zealand’s oldest State secondary school. Mr Searle has been headmaster of Nelson College since 1933. For II years before becoming headmaster he was » senior assistant.— (F.0.0.R.) The resignations of Messrs E. 0. Ixmz and J. Hosking from the staff oj St. Andrew’s College were announced by the rector (Mr L. W. Stewart) the school’s prize-giving ceremony ye B ’ terday. Messrs I. D. Livingstone and w. R. Hawkey have been appointed to fill the vacancies. Mr J. Loft, chief accountant of the Railways Department, has retired after 40 years’ service. He has been chief accountant since 1952. His successor is Mr E. G. Butcher, who was previously assistant chief accountant—(P.A.) Mr P. P J. Amodeo has been reco£* msed as Consular Agent for Italy in Christchurch, says the latest issue ox the Gazette. The appointment of Mr John Dellaca, J.P., of Westport, as a Coroner is recorded in the Gazette.
