MAGISTRATE’S COURT
FRIDAY (Before Mr Rex C. Abernethy, S.M.) CHARGE WITHDRAWN An American airman, whose name was ordered not to be published and who had been remanded from the previous day on a charge of being in charge of a motor-car when under the influence of liquor or drugs, was discharged w’hen the case was withdrawn. Mr A. W. Brown said that the whole position had been discussed by the External Affairs Department and the United States authorities in Wellington, and the Attorney-General had informed Mr Brown that he did
not wish to proceed with the charge. Mr Brown applied for permission to withdraw the charge and hand the accused over to the American service authorities, who would deal appropriately with him. The Magistrate said he wholly agreed with the action taken, and allowed the charge to be withdrawn. TRAFFIC BREACHES Charges of breaches of the traffic regulations brought by the Police Department were dealt with as follows: No warrant of fitness.—Gavin Roberts, 30s; Garth Victor Rasmussen, 20s; lan Clyne. 20s; Arthur Ernest | Ricketts, 10s; David Francis John iScapens and Evelyn Mary O’Connor, : convicted and discharged.
