REHABILITATION OF CONVICTS

INSTRUCTIONS UNDER REVIEW (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 9. A more precise set of instructions about the policy on rehabilitation privileges for prisoners is being considered by the Department of Justice. This was announced today by the Minister of Justice *Mr J. R. Marshall), who said that the decisions’ would be announced next week.

The Canterbury University College Law Students’ Society held a formal ' dinner last evening in the Clarendon Hotel. Mr Raymond Ferner. S.M., Mr R. C. Abernethy, S.M., Mr L. N. Ritchie, S.M.. Mr F. F. Reid. S.M., the Crown Prosecutor (Mr Alan Brown), the president of the Canterbury District Law Society (Mr T. A. Gresson). Professor E. Percival, head of the Professorial Board of Canterbui-y University , College, and Mr E. P. Wills, dean of the law faculty, and lecturers were among the guests of honour. Three retiring lecturers. Messrs E. C. Champion. E. S. Bowie and W. F. Brown, were bidden farewell. A presentation was made to . them by the president (Mr J. G. i Rutherford).
