DRIVER SCRATCHED POLICE CAR

COURT FINES CULPRIT (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. December 2,

Writing a warning on the top of a police car about its parking position cost Edward George Beazley, a truck driver, £5 when he appeared befora Mr M. B. Scully, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court today.

Beazley pleaded guilty to a charge of causing wilful damage. Police said in evidence that the words Beazley wrote on top of the car were: “Please keep your car from here or it will get dented.” Sub-inspector A. J. Austin said the police car had been parked in Lower Tory Street while its occupants were making urgent inquiries. Oh returning, the police found the paintwork had been scratched by the chalk, and the scratch could not be removed. Beazley was interviewed, and admitted writing on the car. Beazley told the Court that the car was parked across a doorway and he could not get his own vehicle in. He said he wrote the words on the car for the owner’s protection.
