PRESENTATION OF DIPLOMAS

KINDERGARTEN COLLEGE GRADUATES ••It is a great joy to see that girls are coming forward so readily to offer themselves as kindergarten teachers, but we do want more and more,” said Mrs K. B. McCreanor, president of the New Zealand Free Kindergarten Union, at the annual presentation of diplomas last evening to graduate* of-the Kindergarten Trailring College. "Christchurch has the largest number of graduates in New Zealand this year and I congratulate you on behalf of the union.” she added. Mrs McCreanor reminded the graduates of the importance of their vocation to children and the community Later Mrs McCreanor presented the diplomas and posies to the graduates. Mrs F. E. Burrell, president of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association. presided and added her congratulations to the graduates and thanks to the staff of the college. Other speakers were Miss L Wilkie, principal of the college, and Dr John Moffatt Guests of honour included the Mayoress (Mrs R. M Macfarlane). Mrs A. Keith Hadfield, and Mrs G. Aitken, life members of the Christchurch Free

Kindergarten Association, Mrs L. W McGsskill, Immediate pasf-nresident of tile association: Mrs A. F Johnson, immediate past-president of the New Zealand Free Kindergarten Union; Mr* D. R Leask. ©resident of the Ashburton Free Kindergarten Association, and Mr Duncan Mackav retiring principal of the Teachers* College. The graduates were Misses A. Atkinson, P. Barker. C. Basher, R. Brighting M. Davison. H Dreaver. E. Elmsley G. Ferguson E Knight. J. Levestam. P. Lake. H. Murie. A Montgomerie. J. Nelson, M. Partridge. J. Shearer. B. Thomson. C. Thelning. and B. Watkins.

Prizes were awarded as follows: Genera! excellent: Kay CaldwelL Miss Hay’s prize for music manuscript: Lois McElwee. Jennifer Stagg, and Gail Bennett. Miss Orange’s prize for nature J oy Nelson. Ruth Brighting, Elizabeth Elmsley and Cora) Basher Most progress in music: Margaret Davison. Senior student with the highest marks: Joy Nelson. A short musical programme included vocal duets by Lois McElwee and Jean Stevens, with Heather Murie as accompanist; a recitation by Joan Macfarlane, and carols by the graduates for whom Mr Keith Newson was the accompanist. Later a dance Was held for the graduates, students, and their friends.
