CONVICTION FOR SHOP BREAKING
APPEAL SET DOWN FOR NEXT WEEK An appeal by Clifford Fox, aged 33. a carpenter, against his convcition and sentence on a charge of breaking and entering the premises of Beath and Company, Ltd., at New Brighton and committing theft, has been set down for hearing by the Court of Appeal in Wellington on Wednesday. Mr B. J. Drake has been assigned as counsel for Fox. Fox, who was found guilty by a jury, was sentenced by Mr Justice McGregor in the Supreme Court on November 8 to preventive detention—an indeterminate term of from three to 14 years in prison. Richard Stanley Wratten, aged 34, a carpenter, has also appealed against his conviction and the sentence of five years’ imprisonment imposed bv Mr Justice McGregor after Wratten had been found guilty by a jury on charges of breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime.
