Newspaper Merger
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 22. The Liberal newspaper, the “News Chronicle,’’ has now become the “News Chronicle and Daily Dispatch.’’ It has bought the title, goodwill and relevant copyrights of the “Daily Dispatch,” Manchester, from Kemsley Newspapers, Ltd. It says that recent arrangements between Kemsleys and the “Daily Mirror” group to publish the group’s newspapers in Manchester appeared to involve the complete extinction of the “Daily Dispatch,” the Kemsley newspaper with the largest provincial sale in the country.
The proprietors of the “News Chronicle” felt that this would be a “tragedy,” and the merger was therefore arranged.
