Textile Strike In Japan

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 12.10 a.m.) TOKYO, October 17. Some 140.000 workers of Japan's 10 major spinning companies launched a 48 hour strike today to press demands for an average monthly pay rise of £l. The walk-out at the 10 companies practically stopped the whole industry. Japan’s 13 other spinning companies employ a total of only 25,000 workers. As the workers, belonging to the National Federation of Textile Industry .Workers’ Union, left plants throughout the nation, the powerful Japanese Seamen’s Union offered to support the strike by stopping marine transportation of goods manufactured by the 10 firms.
