PRODUCTION OF BUTTERFAT

DECREASE ON LAST YEAR

DAIRY BOARD’S FIGURES FOR TWO MONTHS (New Zealana Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 5. New Zealand butterfat production in the first two months of this season was 2.6 per cent, below last year’s corresponding figure, but 3.4 per cent, up on the five-year average, the Dairy Board’s latest review reports. August production was below last year’s in all districts except. Northland, which showed an increase of more than 9 per cent., and an increase on the fiveyear average of 18.3 per cent. Production was above the five-year average in an districts except Otago and Southland. The review sayst "Dairy production was slow during August, but showed signs of picking up during September, as- a result of a returh to warmer conditions and a decided improvement in pasture growth in most North Island districts. However, growth is still very slow in the far south. "Generally speaking, pastures are good, but as yet there is no surplus of feed. Outbreaks of bloat in several areas after the sudden burst of clover growth is causing some concern. Cdses have been reported from South Auckland and Waikato, Taranaki, and Wellington,” says the review. Creamery butter production over the first two months of the season was approximately 18,800 tons, an increase of 2200 tons on the corresponding period of last year. Cheese production was about 1500 tons below last year’s level for the same period. DOUBLE WOOL SALE AT DUNEDIN (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN. Oct. 5.
