COMPETITION FOR LABOUR
Extravagant Offers Deplored
N.Z. MANUFACTURERS URGE RESTRAINT
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 14. A “continued tendency towards extravagant offers” of wages and conditions in advertising for staff was depleted at the annual conference of (he New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation today. All members of the federation should be told of the dangers of such practices, and should arrange with other sections of employers for restraint in such advertising, said a remit adopted by the meeting. To ensure that staff experience might be fairly assessed, the conference considered that all members should put into effect the provisions of the Factories Act relating to the supplying of a certificate of employment, to staff on leaving employment in a factory. That certificate should be available to subsequent employers, who should be advised to demand the production of such a certificate, the remit added.
