EXTENSIONS TO AIR BASE
Villagers Continue Protest (Rec. 11 p.m.) TOKYO, September 14. Police today mobilised about 1000 men with tear gas and guns to hold a milling crowd in the airbase village of Sunakawa while Japanese Government survey teams for the second day drove pegs to make a runway extension.
There were early reports of 12 arrests, but few clashes at that stage. The Sunakawa villagers are backed by the Japanese Labour movement and Socialist political parties in this protest against the extension of the air strip.
