AUCKLAND WINS BOTH N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS (New Zealand Press. Association) NAPIER. August 31. Auckland last night won both the men’s and women’s sections of the New Zealand table tennis inter-association championships. Auckland beat Wellington in the men’s section for the Kean Shield, ana Canterbury in the women’s for the Teaglc Shield. Otago won the mens plate and Manawatu took the women’s bracelet. A major upset was the defeat of the first seeded player, Miss Joyce Williamson, of Canterbury, by Miss Margaret Hoar (Auckland), fourth seed. The final of the women’s championship resulted Auckland 7, Canterbury 5. Details : Singles (Auckland names first). —C. Savage beat P. May, 21-8, 21-13; J. McDougall lost to P. Quinn, 17-21, 21-13, 14-21; M. Hoar beat J. M. Cox, 21-16, 21-16; C. McGuire lost to J. M. Williamson, 18-21, 1421; McDougall beat May, 19-21, 21-17. 21-12; Savage beat Quinn, 22-20, 27-25; McGuire lost to Cox, 9-21, 9-21; Hoar beat Williamson, 18-21, 21-3, 21-19.
