Anti-Glass Petition

A movement against broken glass on roads which started at Kaitaia is spreading throughout the Dominion. The organisers, the Kaitaia and District Progressive Society, hope to present a petition with 200,000 sigriatures to the next session of Parliament. Two thousand petition forms were sent throughout New Zealand a month ago, and the society reports that already there is an “excellent response.” The petition expresses “great alarm at the rapidly increasing number of accidents caused by glass,” and says that the provisions of the Police Offences Act are inadequate. It asks for legislation requiring either the owners of beer bottles or the vendors of beer to impose a heavy returnable deposit
