GRANTS TO FORMER SERVICEMEN
ASSISTANCE GIVEN BY PATRIOTIC COUNCIL Grants amounting to £719 17s 4d were made to former servicemen of the First and Second World Wars and the Korean war by the metropolitan welfare committee of the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Council since the last meeting of the council in June. Of 75 applications received from former servicemen of the Second World War. assistance was granted in 58 cases. Sixty-eight First World War veterans were granted £426 4s 4d. A grant of £lO was also made to a former member of K Force. These figures were contained in the report of the standing committee presented at a meeting of the council yesterday afternoon. Of nine applications referred to the standing committee, assistance was granted in seven cases. In addition, grants amounting to £233 7s 2d were made to 19 men by various country committees.
