CHALLENGE SHIELD TOURNAMENT SECOND-ROUND GAMES (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 30. Conditions were perfect for the continuation of the second-round matches in the New Zealand Challenge Shield hockey tournament played this afternoon. Tliere was a large attendance of spectators. Canterbury beat Hawke’s Bay, 3-0, in a fast and exciting game. Hawke’s Bay played well, but lack of finish by the forwards in the circle lost them many chances. Auckland showed improved form to beat Wairarapa, 3-0. Otago outplayed Waikato, especially in the second spell, to win, 5-1. Results were:— Canterbury 3 (J. Kiddey 2 and N. Hobson were the scorers),. Hawke's Bay 0: Otago 5 (H. McKane 3. S. Burton and E. Kofoed), Waikato 1 (M. Irwin); Auckland 3 (B. Smith 2 and M. Stainton), Wairarapa 0. CANTERBURY WINS HATCH CUP GAME (New Zealand Press Association) HASTINGS, August 30. In a schoolboys’ representative hockey match at Hastings for the Hatch Cup, Canterbury, the holders, beat Hawke’s Bay, by 9 goals to 1.
