WOOL VALUES IN SYDNEY SALE
(Rec. 11.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 30. Although prices for comebacks and crossbreds ruled firm at the Sydney wool sale today, an easier tone prevailed for Merino wool. The values for Merino wool showing some quality remained barely firm compared with yesterday, while medium and broad quality descriptions were 2| per cent, lower. Topmaking wools predominated in today's catalogues. The main buyers were from the Continent, Japan and Britain. Of the 15,447 bales offered, 14,935 were sold. Crossbred prices included: 74|d for good 56/58’s; 73d for good average 58’s; 71£d for good average 60’s; 67id for good average 56’s; 66|d for good average 60/64’s. All types quoted carried light burr. Adelaide Prices Prices at the first Adelaide wool sale for the season today were down 10 to 15 per cent, on those of the last Adelaide sale in June. They were slightly easier than those ruling in Sydney yesterday. Broader quality Merino and burry agricultural descriptions showed the greatest depreciation, being down 15 per -cent. Finer quality merino was down 10 per cent. Competition was slack. The main buyers were from the Contfrient. with support from the United Kingdom and Australian and Japanese mills. Of the 15,194 bales offered, 14,549 were sold. The price range was: 64’s. 72d to 89d; 60’s, 68d to f9ld; 58’s, 55d to 74d; 56’s, 54d t0.67d.
