ACCIDENTS

Sir,—On Saturday, August 13, a number of Army vehicles travelled along the West belt, Rangiora, to the butts. One vehicle was followed by a small grey car, at a distance of about two feet, while the trainees in the back of the van were poking the front of the car with their rifles. What can be done with such people? They should have their licence cancelled for two years'at least and fines should be heavy enough to embarrass and sting and take the grin from the faces of these money-flush irresponsibles.— Yours, etc.. E. K. BANFIELD. Rangiora, August 18, 1955. [“lnquiries have been made of the company commander and of senior non-commissioned officers in the company, but no-one knows of the incident referred to,”, said the Chief of Staff, Southern Military District Headquarters (Lieutenant-Colonel H. A. Purcell) in reply to this letter. “Nor has such an incident been reported.”]
