METHVEN VICAR BIDDEN FAREWELL

The Methven parish hall was filled to capacity on Sunday evening when parishioners bid farewell to Canon A. C. T. Purchas and Mrs Purchas. who are moving to Christchurch on Canon Purchas’s retirement after four years in Methven. Reference to their good work in the district was made by speakers from the Presbyterian and Methodist churches, the Methven school committee and various church organisations. The people’s warden (Mr C. W. Grieve) presented Canon Purchas with a cheque on behalf of the parishioners, and the vicar’s warden (Mr R. E. A. Lock) made a presentation on behalf of the vestry.
