Japanese Win U.S. Men’s Doubles
<Rec. 9 p.m.) BROOKLINE (Massachusetts), Aug. 28. Kosei Kamo and Astushi Miyagi, members of the Japanese Davis Cup team, won the men’s national doubles tennis championship today with a five set victory over the Americans, Jerry Moss and Bill Quillian, in the seventyfifth competition at Longwood. Kamo and Miyagi lost a two-set lead and then came back to win 6-2, 6-3. 3-6. 3-6. 6-4. It was the first victory by a Japanese team in a national doubles competition. Although Kamo and Niyagi were seeded fifth among the foreign entries, they were given little chance of even advancing to the final round when the comoetition began two weeks ago. But heavy rains washed out more than a week of play, forcing the withdrawal of American and Australian Davis Cup players. Louise Brough and Mrs Barbara Osborne Dupont won their tenth national doubles tennis title today by upsetting the defending champions, Shirley Fry and Doris Hart, in the women’s final. Miss Brough and Mrs Dupont, seeded second to their opponents, came back after a poor second set to take the third and championship by a 6-3. 1-6. 6-3 margin.
