BENEFACTION BY SIR JOHN MCKENZIE

CRICHTON COBBERS TO HAVE NEW ROOMS Sir John MeKenziq, who is at present in Britain, has made a gift of £10,009 to the Crichton Cobbers’ Club. The money will be used for the building of new club rooms, and has been made through the Christchurch Ro. tary Club, of which Sir John McKenzie is a member. Sir John McKenzie is noted as a philanthropist, and last year gave £1,000,000 to the McKenzie Youth Education Trust, which was established in 1938 with a gift of £lO,OOO. The original gift was to be administered by directors of the Christchurch and Wellington Rotary Clubs for the under, privileged boys in those cities, and later the fqnd was increased to £30,000 and made -available to the Rotary Clubs in Auckland and Dunedm. The “Rotarian," the Rotary movement’s magazine published m the United States, is printing a two-page article on the gifts of Sir John McKenzie. It contains a sketch of Sir John McKenzie alongside a map of New Zealand, and a photograph of him receiving a silver salver from Mr Charles M. Greenslade, a Past Dis. trict Governor of Rotary, The article contains 'details of SnJohn McKenzie's career and lists his benefactions. It mentions that in 1940 he established a trust of £lOO,OOO for the aid of disabled veterans, for the Plunket Society, for children in need of Special medical treatment or vocational training, and for any other charitable or educational purposes selected by the trustees. * Announcing the latest gift yesterday, Mr F. c. Penfold, president of the Christchurch Rotary Club, said it had been made through Sir John McKenzie’s son, Mr H- A. McKenzie. The Rotary Club and Sir John McKenzie had always taken a keen interest ip the Crichton Cobbers, he said.
