TRAP SHOOTING
EVENTS FOR NOVICES AT LEESTON ELLESMERE GUN CLUB In addition to events for the more experienced shooters, the Ellesmere Gun Club held, on its ground at Leeston, another shoot for novices, 20 of whom faced the clay bird traps. Several of the competitors put up good performances. The chief event for the young competitors was a match of 15 birds, in which Graham Nairn, with a possible, won a trophy given by Sir R. Heaton Rhodes. J. Habgood and T. T. McMillan, each with 14 breaks, shared first and second money in the sweep. Next canje J. Heslop and S. Maw, with 13, and J. Gargett, M. Denton, and B. HUI, with 12. A trophy given by Mr W. L. Donald for most points gained in this match and one held a few weeks earlier went to T. T. McMillan. A 10-bird sweep for novices resulted in another win for G. Nairn, with a possible, giving him a run of 25 breaks for the two events. He received a trophy given by Mr W. J. L. Chambers. S. Maw and T. T. McMillan each scored nine, and M. Giddens, J. Habgood, M. Denton, and C. A. Higginson eight. Shooting for the senior competitors began with a five-bird eye-opener, in which J. F. Parkin, C. Roberts, E. G. Amyes, W. H. Winchester, and A. A. Greenwood were all on. A 15-bird match followed for a trophy given by Mr J. B. Patterson. Possibles were scored by C. Roberts. R. G. Allan, and W. L. Gobble, Allan winning the shoot-off at the eighth round and taking the trophy. The other two shared first and second money in the sweep. A. A. Greenwood scored 14 and J. F. Parkin, C. C. Skinner, L. C. Lemon, E. G. Amyes, W. H. Winchester, A. A. Peterson, G. M. Doyle, and F. Halkett 13. There were two double-rise sweeps, each of five pairs. The first was won by G. M. Doyle with nine breaks, while C. C. Skinner, C. Roberts, and A. A. Greenwood each scored eight. Doyle also won the second with a possible. C. C. Skinner and A. A. Greenwood broke eight and E. G. Amyes, W. L. Gobbie, and F. Halkett seven. A first-miss-out was won by A. A. Greenwood at the tenth round. Mr W. L. Donald supervised and refereed the events for novices, and Messrs R. G. Allan, E. G. Amyes, and A. E. Amyes were the referees for the senior shoots.
KIRWEE CLUB’S TITLE EVENTS
The weather was fine and shooting conditions good when the Klrwee Gun Club held its novice cup and single and doublerise championships recently. The following were the results:— Novice Cup: Won by W. L. Stott, with I. Langford runner-up. Single-rise championship: Possibles were shot by B. Begg. D. Bell, and C Stott. Stott won the shoot-off, with Bell second. Double-rise championship, 20 birds: B. Begg had an easy win with 19 breaks, and W. Jenkins was the runner-up with 16 Fourth match, 10-target handicap: W. Jenkins and M. Voice shot the only possibles.
