The security cloak was removed today from a new air navigation system used by the armed services and scheduled for use by commercial aviation. The Defence Department announced that technical details of Tacan (tactical air navigation system) were no longer confidential. Tacan is a shortranged navigation aid which gives a pilot a continuous bearing and information as to his distance from selected ground stations. It works over a distance of about 300 nautical miles between ground station and aircraft
