OTAGO HUNT MEETING
POSTPONEMENT TILL OCTOBER 1
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, August 16. The Otago Hunt Club’s race meeting, which was to have been held at Wing-atui on Saturday, has been postponed until October 1.
The Wingatui track has been heavy since the Dunedin Jockey Club’s winter meeting in June, and had a further setback after rain at the week-end. The Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting is scheduled for September 17 and 24, and as no suitable dates are available before October 1, it has been decided to apply to the Racing Conference for permission to race on this date.
The only other race meetings in the South Island on October 1 are the Reefton Jockey Club's and Ashburton Trotting Club’s fixture. Fresh nominations, which will close on Monday, September 12, will be called for the meetingj and alterations to the programme will be submitted to the Dunedin District Committee. The Tally Ho Handicap, the open distance race, will be increased from a mile to a mile and three furlongs, and the Wingatui Handicap, the open sprint, from six furlongs to seven furlongs. In the Trial Stakes, three-year-olds will carry 7-11 and four-year-olds 8-7. In the other flat races the minimum weight will be decreased from 8-0 to 7-7: in accordance with the minimum weights for that period of the year. All tickets and passes already issued for August 20 will be valid for the new date.
