PLACING OF HIGH TENSION LINES
FARMERS OBJECT TO PROPOSAL HEARING BEGUN IN TIMARU (New Zealand Press Association) t „ TIMARU, August 16. In the first case of its kind in New Zealand, five farmers are objecting in the Magistrate’s Court. Timaru. to the proposal of the South Canterbury Electric Power Board to place 11,000-volt power lines across their properties. The objections were heard today before Mr E. A. Lee, S.M., and were brought under Section 88 (2) of the Electric Power Boards Act. 1925. The grounds are that the use of the land as proposed is unreasonable and unnecessary, and that neighbouring lands are more suited to the purpose. After hearing evidence from two farmers from the Studholme-Morven district, an agricultural expert and a land valuer, the Magistrate adjourned the case until tomorrow.
