WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Klrwee.— The monthly meeting of thd Kirwie Country Women’s institute was held in the lounge of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association Hall recently. Mrs D. Westaway presided over a good attendance. The social quarter hour by Mrs Davis was won by Mrs Hibbs. Mrs Boulton gave an interesting demonstration on felt novelties. One new member was welcomed. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Cox and Devonshire. The monthly competitions resulted: —large bloom: Mrs G. Redmond 1, Miss M. Henderson 2, Mrs R. Pascol 3. Small bloom: Miss M. Collee 1, Mrs R. Henderson 2, Mrs D. Westaway 3. Embroidered tray cloth: Mrs R. H. Henderson 1, Miss Collee 2, Miss H. Henderson 3. Preserved fruit: Mrs R. Henderson 1. Miss Henderson 2, Mrs R. H. Henderson 3. Preserved vegetables: Miss H. Henderson 1, Mrs R. Pascoe 2, Miss M. Henderson 3. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of Mrs McLaughlin. Ohoka.—Mrs Madsen presided at the July meeting of the Ohoka Country Women’s Institute, when arrangements were made for the birthday party. Invitations were accepted for the Fernside Women’s Division of Federated Farmers birthday party and the Ohoka and Districts Country Girls’ Club annual dance. It was reported that the proceeds from the euchre evening were satisfactory. Mrs Miller, of Rangiora, gave a demonstration of remodelling nats Competitions resulted as follows:—best head: Mrs Cottle 1, Mrs M. Jfekson 2. Mrs N. Atkinson 3. Small blcWn: Mrs Cottle I. Large bloom: Mrs Hoft? 1, Mrs Atkinson 2. Bottled onions: Mrs M. Jackson 1. Initialled hankerchief: Mrs E. Hide 1. Mrs Hole 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Cottle. D. Dowdle and Grey. Springston.—The twenty-fourth birthday nartv of the Springston Country Women's institute was held recently in the Springston hall. The president (Mrs W. A. Elliot> welcomed the visitors. Birthday sprays w*re presented to several members, also to visitors, whose birthday occurred during the month. Dancine items were given by Mavis Reid, and Robert Reid and Marion Reid. The birthday cake was cut by Mesdames J. S. Simpson and A. Rolston.
