Miss P. L. Seyb, a member of the teaching staff of Linwood High School, tendered her resignation, as from January 31, 1956, at a meeting of the school board of governors. Miss Seyb, who is to be married, will make her new home in Murchison. Miss M. E. Miller, second-assistant matron at the Auckland Hospital, is to be the new matron at the National Women s Hospital. Miss Millar, who is 39, graduated gold medallist from Green Lane Hospital in 1945. After experience as a staff nurse, she obtained her maternity and midwifery qualifications and . became matron of the Franklin Memorial Hospital at Waiuku. She’ finished her postgraduate course in Wellington in 1951, and in November that year became second-assistant matron at the Auckland Hospital. The final of the interprovincial golf competition for the Russell Grace Cup will be played this year during Labour week-end instead of during the New Zealand championship meeting as in former years. The match will be played at the Paraparaumu course between the team from the Bay of Plenty, the North Island finalists, and the Canterbury team, the South Island finalists. The Fendalton Garden Club held its August meeting yesterday at the hoine of Mrs E. Archbold, Rochdale Street. Mrs A. R. Blank (president) presided and Mrs W. K. Blow gave a demonstration on the making of sprays. In charge of the sales table were Mesdames G. Ashton. L. G. Amos, A. R. Blank, C. Cook, D. Clarkson, and H. Cranfield. The sum of £8 10s was raised for the Horticultural Society’s building fund. Competitions resulted as follows: decorative, class A, Mrs D. Orchard 1, Mrs J. V. Scales 2, Mrs W. E Wilson and Mrs K. Mabin equal 3; class B, Mrs L. Mitchell 1, Mrs R Holdgate 2, Mrs S. L. Partridge 3; flower of the morith, class A. Mrs E. Somers 1, Mrs W. L. Patridge 2; class B, Mrs F. Dyer 1, Mrs A. C. Fairbairn 2, Mrs H. Dowling 3; best blonm, class A. Mrs Orchard 1. Mrs Scales 2. Mrs Mabin 3; class B, j&rs R. Holdgate 1, Mrs Dyer 2. Sharp 3; best shrub. Mrs l. Mrs Somers 2, Mrs R. Holdgate 3.Mrs I. Cox presided at the July meeting of the Linwood Townswomen s Guild. Reports were given by the leaders of the singing, arts and crafts, gardening and drama circles. A talk was given by Mrs Boxs on her trip to Suva. At the arts and crafts circle meeting, Mrs Bootten and Mrs Sollitt showed the members how to make earrings from sea shells, and Mrs Clark demonstrated the making of a wool rug. When the garden circle met. Miss Mingo gave an interesting talk on the growing of cacti. The Dickens Fellowship continued its study of the “Old Curiosity Shop’’ at its monthly meeting. Readings and dramatic representations were given by Miss I. Eldridge, the connecting story being arranged and reaijl by Miss I Morland. Members of the St. MartinsHuntsbury League of Mothers discussed “Domestic Problems” at their monthly meeting. An enjoyable play reading entitled “No Tears for Henry,” was presented by the drama circle. Recitations were given by Mrs H. Reed, of the Spreydon branch of the league. ‘ Children were cared for in the creche.
