OMISSION OF BLAIR
WELLINGTON CRICKETERS “ AMAZED ” (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August L Wellington cricketers are amazed at the omission of R. W. Blair, one of the outstanding bowlers in the country, from the New Zealand team to tour India and Pakistan. The Wellington Cricket Association may seek an explanation from the New Zealand Cricket Council. At the half-yearly meeting of the council, held last week, Wellington pressed for a reorganisation of the New Zealand Cricket Council to give the major associations a say in its affairs comparable with the setup of the New Zealand Rugby Union. Blair was one of the most successful bowlers in first-class cricket last season, and Wellington won the Plunket Shield with outright wins in all matches.
Wellington cricketers find it difficult to reconcile the dropping of Blhir with the selection of J, G- Leggat and M. B. Poore, who made 4 and 1 and two ducks respectively in the second test against the M.C.C. last season.
