REPRESENTATION ON COUNCIL A representative of the Social Seciyity Department will be appointed to the Christchurch Aged People's WelCouncil, with a seat on the execuih J 1! dec,ded at a meeting of the council last evening on the recommendation of the executive. was suggested by we Minister of Social Security (Mr E. H. Halstead) in a letter to the chairman of the executive (Dr. H. R. Donald). Since the national conference on the of the aged, the Minister said, he had found that there was no representative of his department on the council s committee, “although I understand there is close liaison and excellent co-operation between your organisation and officers of the department.” he added. “If your committee feel that a representative from the department would be of help, I should be very pleased, if such an invitation were extended.” he said. “I can assure you that the department would be very willing to help in any way possible. “I feel that it has something to offer to the common pool of knowledge required to deal with some of the probletns m which vour committee and the individual organisations represented are interested, particularly through its extended activities in the welfare field by reason of its administration of the special assistance funds.” Mr Halstead said.
