The prize-winning little sweet cakes were tried out in the club’s model kitchen and sampled by the cookery editor, Ruth Morgan, who judged them “delicious.” The recipe is: Birds’ Nests from New Zealand.— 3oz butter or margarine. 2oz brown sugar. 1 taolesroon Loney, juice of | lemon. soz cornflales, whipped cream, chocolate vermicelli Melt fat. sugar and honey over low heat. The housewife said yesterday that the news came as a surprise as she had no idea that there was an award to oe given. “About a year ago the magazine’s Wooden Spoon Club appealed to readers for recipes so I simply posted them several of what I call typically New Zealand recipes for cakes and biscuits, and after a letter of acknowledgement forgot about them.’’ she said.

“I felt that the recipes would be of interest to English housewives because before my arrival in the Dominion about six years ago from Engla d I had not tasted or seen such lovely varieties of cakes and biscuits as those made by housewives in New Zealand. “Actually the recipes were not original and the whole thing is incredible.’* the housewife said.
