PARKING MOTORIST “WAS IN BATH”
LONDON. July 8. Cars parked outside a block of flats in Park lane. London, caused a huge traffic jam. - Constable Arthur Hughes and other policemen traced the owners of the cars and had them moved. He found all the owners but one. The owner of this car was traced to his flat and a message was sent to him to remove it. Back came the reply: “I am in my bath.” As noon struck, Constable Hughes decided to pay a personal visit. The bathroom was vacant, for the recent occupier had slipped out through another dooor and moved the car when no. one was looking. Four days later. Constable Hughes found the car outside the same block of flats. His message requesting its removal drew the same reply: “I am in my bath.” Constable Hughes then sent an urgent message to the owner; “Your car’s petrol tank is leaking and the fire brigade is being called.” Out came the bather, respectably dressed. The story was told at the Bow Street Court when the man was fined £9 for causing an obstruction. He did not appear in Court.
