Nephew Of Cardinal Mindszenty
(Rec. 8 p.m.) VIENNA, July 6. Gyulia Tarlo, a nephew of the imprisoned Cardinal Mindszenty, escaped from Hungary only to be arrested again in Jugoslavia as an American spy. Now in Austria, Tarlo told journalists today Jie was sentenced to a long term of goal in Hungary after his uncle, Cardinal Mindszenty, had been charged with espionage for the United States. Released under an amnesty in 1953, Tarlo learned that he was to be arrested again. So he swam the river Mur and escaped to Jugoslavia. He was promptly arrested there and held for some months as* a spy suspect. Tarlo, who escaped to Austria this! week, said that Cardinal Mindszenty • had completely recovered from a neck operation, and was fit, although closely guarded.
£11,600 Won in Quiz Programme.— Mrs. Katherine Kreitzer, a 54-year-old grandmother, last night won 32,000 dollars (about £11,600) on a television quiz programme by answering a threepart question on Biblical characters. — New York, July 6.
