Wing Corimander C. N. Johnston, of Wellington, is promoted to group captain temporary in the half-yearly promotion fist for officers of the Regular Air Force. He has been associated with the manning and administration of the Royal New Zealand Air Force since the start of World War 11. (P.A.)

Lieutenant-Commander J. E. Washbourne, Royal New Zealand Navy, is to be first lieutenant of the cruiser Royalist, whtn she is commissioned for service with the Royal New Zealand Navy. He is at present divisional staff officer at H.M.N.Z.S. Ngapona. the Auckland division of the Naval Volunteer Reserve, fie will be succeeded in this, post by Lieutenant-Commander D. H. Davies, fi.N.Z.N., who is serving in H.M.N.Z.S. Bellona.—(P.A.) One of the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s original signals officers, Flight Lieutenant C. G. Burr,- has retired from the R.N.Z.A.F. after 18 years’ service. He joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in 1937, the year of its formation—(P.A.) Mr L. F. Round, relieving postmaster in the Christchurch postal district. retired yesterday after 40 years’ service with the department. Mr Round was formerly postmaster at Rangiora and Sydenham. The three sitting members were returned in the election of employees’ representatives for the Christchurch Technical College Board yesterday. They are Messrs J. E. Jones. R. Jones, and J. Shankland. The unsuccessful candidate was Mr F. Langley.

Lieutenant A. I. R. Jamieson, of Christchurch, has been mentioned in dispatches for services in a helicopter squadron of the Fleet Air Arm in operations in Malaya. With his family, he is now again in England, and will return to New Zealand later this year at the end of his short-service commission.
