AUCKLAND STAMP EXHIBITION

250,000 SPECIMENS TO BE DISPLAYED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 29. More than 250,000 stamps insured for about £250,000 will be displayed when Auckland’s international stamp exhibition opens in the Town Hall on July 16. The exhibition is being held to commemorate the centenary of the first issue of stamps in New Zealand. It has attracted entries from 263 philatelists in many parts of the world by its competitive section. Entries have been received from Europe, the United States and Canada, and Australia and New Zealand. The Governor-General (Sir Willoughby Norrie) will open the exhibition, which will end on July 22. An outstanding exhibit will be 96 sheets of stamps lent by the Queen. It will be the first time that stamps from a Royal collection have been shown in New Zealand.
