Inspector-General of the Royal New Zealand Air Force .in an' address to the Auckland Rotary Club today. “We have gone past the intention stage,” he said. “We are on the job.” No. 14 (Fighter) Squadron had done well in the Middle East, and was now in Malaya, he said. No. 75 Squadron, stationed at Ohakea, was in a state where it could go overseas at very short notice. There had been much criticism of New Zealand’s purchase of Sunderland flying-boats for the maritime reconnaissance squadrons, “The Sunderland can still do what we want it to do.” he added. “There is nothing else available.”
Air Commodore Cohen said that the air fofee had had to build up its own transport squadrons to ensure the swift carriage of men and equipment in time of war. During last year, the transport aircraft carried 750 tons of equipment and 4300 persons on flights abroad.
