MILK
. Sir,—l submit for “Producer’s” consideration the following information which has proved successful. Cover each cow adequately and “shed" them in weather-proof stalls after evening milking; provide tepid water to drink and feed with good quality lucerne hay and brewers’ grains. A substitute for brewers’ grains is barley grain soaked in hot water for 24 hours, to which has been added niolasses at the rate of one to two pints to the gallon, draininc surplus water off before feeding. This system ensures that the solids-not-fat is not used by the cow to provide warmth and nourishment, but is passed on into its milk yield, as is done in the warmer periods of its production. Cows, like fowls, require to be kept warm and dry during cold weather if quality of production is desired. This feature has been overlooked by authorities in Canterbury.— I Yours, etc., FOOD VALUES.
