Sir Matthew Oram (Speaker of the i House of Representatives) and Lady! Oram, who have been visiting Queens- , land, returned to Wellington yesterday. Mr and Mrs Maurice Macfarlane will leave on Thursday to spend a month in Australia before visiting Singapore, Colombo and India. Mrs L. Graham, Mrs K. J. Scott and Miss Nola Millar (Wellington), and Mrs John Trevor (Dunedin) are visiting Christchurch to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Players’ Foundation to be held today. Miss N. Tyndall, who has recently retired from the position of infant supervisor of schools for the South Island, was bidden farewell at an evening party given by the Christchurch Infant Mistress’s Circle. She was presented with a gift by the president (Miss C. Gribben). Piano solos were given by Miss Dailey and songs were sung by Miss C. Miller. The accompanist was Miss Dykes. The annual meeting of the Little River Garden Club was held recently. Most points for the year were awarded as follows: decorative, Mrs A. E. Birdling 1, Mrs J. Patterson 2, Mrs N. Davidson 3; cut flowers and vegetables, Mrs R. Webb 1, Mrs Davidson 2, Mrs L. Radford 3. The election of officers resulted as follows: president, Mrs R. Webb; vice-presidents, Mrs J. Evans and Mrs A. A. Hutchinson; honorary secretary, Mrs L. Joblin; honorary treasurer, Mrs J. Patterson; committee, Mesdames D. Gardiner, J. Flynn, J. Lewthwaite, L. Lewthwaite, C. Gray and R. Barclay. The monthly competitions resulted as follows: decorative, arrangement of shrubs and berries, Mrs R. Webb 1, Mrs A. A. Hutchinson 2, Mrs A. E. Birdling and Mrs J. Grant (equal) 3: sprig of heath or erica, Mrs Radford 1, Mrs L. Lewthwaite 2, Mrs Webb 3; small bloom, Mrs A. Patten 1, Mesdames Lewthwaite, E. W. Ussher and L. Joblin (equal) 3: large bloom, Mrs Ussher 1, Mrs J. Grant 2, Mrs J. Patterson 3; three leaves silver beet, Mrs A. Radford and Mrs J. Grant (equal) 1. Hostesses were Mesdames H. Menzies. H. Lewthwaite, J. Millard and E. Ferris. Mrs R. H. Glubb (president) presided at the June meeting of the Rangiora branch of the Plunket Society. There was a good attendance of members and representatives from Loburn, Ohoka and Woodend-Waikuku subbranches. The resignation of Mrs R. McKay, who has left the district, was accepted with regret. Mesdames Glubb and J. E. Gibbs were elected delegates to the provincial conference to be held at Greymouth next month. Sister Mclntosh reported for the month as follows: new baby cases, 19; visits to homes, 98; visits to rooms, 244; pre-school children examined by doctor, 64; pre-school children examined by nurse, 27; pre-school children under examination, 69.

The following officers were elected at the inaugural meeting of the Fernside Country Girls’ Club: president, Marie Ross-Smith; vice-president, Janet Plaskett; secretary, Jill Smith; treasurer, Adrienne Bowring; committee, president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer. Demonstrations of floral art, mainly for winter decorations in the home were given at a general meeting of the North Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Women Teachers’ Association. last evening. Miss K. Horrell, a lecturer in arts and crafts at the Teachers’ College and three students of the college, Misses W. Goldfinch, F. Fuzzell and F. Conlan were the demonstrators. Miss H. C. Wilson expressed thanks on behalf of the members. Earlier at the business meeting, the president (Miss C. F. Miller) gave a report on the annual meeting of the association held recently in Wellington. An informal open meeting of the M ? rris Group was held in the Y.W.C.A. clubroom. Mr A. Atkins presided. Professor H. Winston Rhodes Soke briefly on how some of the eals of the famous English poet artist and thinker had inspired the group. The secretary, Mrs Helen Kay, explained that the main work at present was the rebuilding of a concert party to assist any sports, social, trade union, residents’ or other organisation, and to entertain at institutions.

The Amur! Country Girls’ Club was formed recently at a meeting in the Rotherham Hall. Miss Peggie Robinson, vice-chairman of the Canterbury district committee, and Miss Estelle Jackson, the secretary, were present. The following officers were elected: president, Helen Henderson-vice-president, Aileen Kittelty; secretary Isobel McKenzie; treasurer, Miss Clark: committee, president, vicepresident, secretary, treasurer, Christine Higgins, Maureen Earl and Leslie Bel 1: advisory members, Mrs Bethell. Mrs Higgins and Sister Niven. The following officers were elected at :he annual meeting of the Gold Star Mothers’ Club:—Patron; Lady McKenzie; president. Mrs V.
