The Wash, brilliantlv won the Brisbane Cup today from Finito. with Milwaukee II third. „ , . „ . . It was a complete - New Zealand finish, as Finito and Milwaukee II came from the Dominion for the race. The Wash, ridden by Jack Purtell, won the race under difficulties. He was in a handy position to the six-furlong post. Here he received a check, which put him back among the tail-enders. Purtell from there made up ground gradually. Just when Finito looked like going on to win. The Wash swooped on the leader and the race was over. The Wash, owned locally, but bred in New Zealand, cost 1400gns as a yearling. He now has won £15,610. Another New Zealand horse, Gold Quality, failed to stay the two miles and finished tenth. The early favourite, Golden Galleon, suffered an injury to x the off-foreleg on Saturday, and was scratched from the cup. Result:— BRISBANE CUP, Of £12,000. Two miles.
