STAMPS AND INCREASED AIR FREIGHT

(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON. June 8. More of Britain’s high-value stamps —2s 6d, ss, 10s, and £l—are being sold, and one of the reasons is the increase in air parcel traffic, says the “Financial Times.” The rates for this traffic vary between 4s and 13s for Alb. One ton of air freight represents possibly some £2OOO of postal charges. Last year parcel traffic by air was about 650 tons, against 200 tons five years ago. so that £1,350.000 worth of high-value stamps was required. Revenue to the Postmaster-General from the sale of stamps exceeds ‘£35,000,000 annually. 1
