HOTEL WORKERS’ UNION
AMENDMENT OF RULES SOUGHT
Eighteen members of the Canterbury Hotel, Hospital, Restaurant and Related Trades Employees’ Union have signed a requisition requesting the secretary of the union, Mr R. A. Brooks, to call a special meeting to consider changes to the union rules. Mr N. M. Smith, who is one of the signatories, said yesterday that the proposed amendments to the rules were the inclusion of the post of secretary in the biennial elections, the posting of notices calling nominations for the executive offices of the union to all establishments employing union members, and a requirement that candidates for office should be financial members of the union for at least six months before . nomination. The president of the union, Mr L. Neilsen, said last evening that he had had no official advice of the requisition from the union office. Under the rules of the union, the secretary must call a special meeting if it is requested by the president, three members of the executive, oi by 10 financial members of the union.
