HIMALAYAN CLIMBERS
Return Expected At Week-end
(Rec. 9 p.m.) DARJEELING, June 6. The members of the successful British expedition to Kanchenjunga are all well and in good shape. They are expected in Darjeeling at the week-end. No details are yet available, but it is believed that the expedition climbed the mountain, in the face of extreme difficulties. Already the rough mountain tracks along which the expedition must travel are becoming slippery and treacherous with rain. With the rains come leeches to provide an additional hazard for the returning climbers. Fresh fruit has been sent out by runners for the expedition. Meanwhile, reports from Katmandu, Nepal, say that seven mountaineering expeditions are now on their way home to Africa and Europe as the impending monsoons have put an end to one of the busiest climbing seasons in the Nepalese Himalayas. The three Scotswomen who came to Katmandu last April as the first allwomen expedition to the Himalayas left today on their way home. They are the women who conquered an unnamed 22,000-foot peak.
