homage paid to D DAY TROOPS
(Rec. 8 p.m.) RANVILLE (Normandy), June 6. Field-Marshal Lord Montgomery .topaid homage to British air-borne troops who died at the war-time D Day landing in Normandy. In Ranville Cemetery he laid a *?eath near the graves of 2000 men billed in the landing of glider troops who opened the Allied invasion of Europe 11 years ago. Wearing a red Parachute Regiment beret, the famous D Day landing commander told relatives of the fallen: ‘lf this area had been lost there Would have been great’ disaster in •Normandy. “That is why I come here every year in gratitude to those men who £ av e their lives,’’ he said.
