ELECTION IN VIETNAM
Call Made By Communists (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 12.10 a.m.) HONG KONG, June 6. The North Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Pham Van Dong announced today in Hanoi his government’s readiness from July 20 next to hold consultative conferences on the organisation of free general elections throughout Vietnam in July, 1956, under the provisions of the Geneva Agreements. This was reported by the North Vietnam News Agency. The agency said he told a press conference: “Vietnam is one. The Vietnam nation is one. No force can divide them. “Whoever tries to partition Vietnam is an enemy of the Vietnamese people, and will surely be defeated.” Mr Pham said North Vietnam had faithfully implemented the Geneva Agreement on Vietnam in the withdrawals and transfer of military personnel. It wanted put into effect the provisions of Paragraph VII of the final declaration on the Geneva Conference, stipulating free general elections in July, 1956.
