PRINCESS WINS RAFFLE
Charity Bazaar For Port Workers (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, June 2. Princess Margaret, clutching a wad of raffle tickets, won a model hat, a tin of biscuits, a handbag, and a compact at a charity bazaar held in St. James’ Palace today. But the Princess, who wore an emerald green cotton dress and a matching hat swathed in white chiffon, returned the hat she had won to the raffle. The one-day fair was being held in aid of the Dockland Settlements, a charity which looks after the welfare of port workers and their families and of which the Princess is patron. Before she left, the Princess bought a small sailing boat, books and bricks for Prince Charles and Princess Anne. The State apartments of St. James’ Palace looked an odd sort of market place with dozens of stalls offering anything from home-made sausage rolls to racks of champagne, antiques, nylons and orchids. Princess Margaret, who walked to the bazaar from Clarence House, went from room to room to see all the stalls and passed through the armoury, where a portrait of Charles II smiled; down on a collection of dolls and balloons.
