OFFICIAL FORECASTS "The Press’- Special Service WELLINGTON, June 2. The weather forecast, issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 27 hours after the time of issue. Is:— Situation.—A deep and extensive depression is centred east of the South Island. Forecast:— Nelson.—Moderate south-west winds: mainly fair weather, apart from a few passing showers in the ranges; cool to moderate temperatures. Outlook: fair to cloudy. Kaikoura Coast and North Canterbury—Fresh winds from the southwest; cloudy and cool, with some showery periods, but probably tending fair later in the day. Outlook: mainly fair. Rest of Canterbury.—Southerly winds, fresh in exposed places; cloudy and rather c'Md, with rain probably persistent in the south, but becoming scattered and intermittent over the plains, where some fair periods are likely later. Outlook: mainly fair. Westland and Buller.—Moderate south-west winds; weather mainly fair, except for a few showers about the ranges; cool to moderate temperatures. Outlook: cloud increasing. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER It rained steadily in Christchurch yeslerday. There was a moderate to strong south-west wind, and the maximum temperature was 47.9 degrees. At midnight, rain was falling, and there was a light south-west wind. The temperature was 46 degrees. The barometer, at 28.87 inches (977.8 millibars), was falling unsteadily.
