RACING ELLERSLIE TRACK WORK

SMART GALLOP BY SILVER ARCHER “The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. June 2. Splendid work on the No. 1 grass by Silver Archer, Meresun, Noon, Reigning King, and Smoke Fox, and hurdling by Solar Mist were features of the training at Ellerslie this morning, in preparation for the Auckland Racing Club’s winter meeting, which will open on Saturday. After overnight rain, the ground was heavy. Silver Archer (Hughes), which kept to the inside, had the measure of Meresun (Forbes), while running- once round in Imin 56sec, the last mile in Imin 48sec, and the final four furlongs in 53 4-ssec. Silver Archer galloped smoothly and finished well. He is a real wet-weather runner.

Noon (Carter) finished strongly, clear of Mary Tudor (Burridge) over a round in Imin 58sec, the last mile in Imin 49 sec, and half in 55 4-ssec. At his last start. Noon won the Waikato Hurdles, so he will command attention when he parades at Ellerslie next week. Dunwold (Tremain) went once round in 2min 9sec. . There was little between Puketoi (Tremain), Cabana (Burridge). and Ivanhoe (Forbes) at the end of nine furlongs, the last round in Imin 59 3-ssec, and the final mile in Imin 51 2-ssec. Cabana moved very keenly, as he generally does in training.

Hit Parade (Reynolds) quickly went ahead, and led Foxlyn (Hillis) and Our Star (McMullan) once round in 2min. Hit Parade worked attractively for a steeplechaser. He is well prepared for the Great Northern Steeplechase on Monday. Regal Poise (Carlton) finished his work over a round with seven furlongs in Imin 40sec. Highland Sandy Fit Highland Sandy (Arnold) finished full, of running alongside his stable-mate, Piper Tom (Rota), over siX furlongs in Imin 20 3-ssec. Highland Sandy is thriving. He is a free galloper, and may take beating in the Cornwall Handicap Gallant Robin (Arnold) led Brerßroney (Rota) over a mile in Imin 53sec. Lyndomar (Foster) and Frances Belle (Rota) ran a working gallop over half a mile in 58 2-ssec. Lyndomar looks none the worse for racing at Gisborne last Saturday, and a long trip since then. Peter Boy (Cameron) sprinted half a mile in 53sec.

Prince Bayanut (Vasas) finished easily on the outside of Birthday Lad (Margison) over six furlongs. They began slowly and quickened over the last three in 42sec. Prince Bayanut has ability, and races well on soft ground. Keneu (Murray) was slightly behind in the middle stages, but beat Count de Neuilly (Handley) over five furlongs in Imin 7 l-ssec. Keneu has improved. Sentinel (W. Hillis) ran seven furlongs in Imin 49sec. Hiwa Roa (Gillies) sprinted freely, but was not timed. Pontoon (Handley) galloped freely over seven furlongs in Imin 37sec. Test Flight (Hillis) ran a working gallop over a mile. He continues to progress well. Orontes (Gillies) and Cheerful Lad (Carlton) ran the last seven furlongs of their work in Imin 39 2-ssec. Impeller (Vasas) easily covered five furlongs in Imin 8 2-ssec. She may be close to her best form again. Bracken (Handley) galloped six furlongs in Imin 20Jsec. On the outside of the course proper, Solar Mist (Carter) easily beat Jewel Denby (Shield) by four lengths over' a mile and three furlongs and five hurdles. Gay Student (Reynolds) began with Solar Mist and Jewel Denby, and fell at the second fence. He was remounted and jumped the last three safely. Solar Mist did not look like making a mistake. Jumping quickly and with confidence, he ran strongly ahead of Jewel Denby after the first two flights, and he finished with plenty in reserve. Solar Mist is a mass of hard, muscular condition.

Arigead (Owens) and Arabic (Shield) were together after a mile and three furlongs and five hurdles. Arigead jumped the better, and Arabic went carefully, especially at the second hurdle, but ha finished well enough. Liberal (Osborne) lacked much paoa over five hurdles. He shows promise. Revel’s Choice (Carlton) jumped four hurdles safely. In the middle. Royal Cipher (Shield) worked well over four hurdles

Double Crown Impresses Every Time (Walsh) and Double Crown (Osborne) led Ballyregan (Murray), Mill Fire (Carlton), and Brown Jester (Carter) over the steeplechase course. Brown Jester and Mill Fire started with the sod wall near the bottom of the straight, and the others joined in at the sixth fence, near the seven-furlong post. They jumped 10 altogether, except for Ballyregan. which finished with the stone wall opposite the members’ stand. The others ended with the fence at the mile

Double Crown set the pace and gave a display, but he did not compare with Every Time, which shaped impressively for a novice. Every Time is a six-year-old gelding by Contact from Never Fail, and is prepared by L. W. Ford. Orontes (Grilles) set out to jump four steeplechase fences on the flat. He baulked at nis first attempt, and worked carefully when tried a second time. Cruden (Walsh) made an improved th° V fl n t ° Ver steeplechase fences on
