MOVE AGAINST MCCARTHY

“Joe Must Go ” Club Held Legal (Rec. 10 p.m.) MADISON (Winsconsin), June 1. The “Joe Must Go” Club did not break a State law in its unsuccessful attempt to recall Senator Joseph McCarthy, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled today. The Court threw out a conviction against the club on 21 charges of illegally using its funds for a political purpose. Judge Bruce Beilfuss had fined the organisation 4200 dollars (about £1524). The charges against the club were brought on July 9, 1954, by the then Sauk . County District Attorney, Mr Harlan Kelley, who had been conducting an investigation of the group's activities from early in its drive to oust Senator McCarthy (Winsconsin, Republican) through a recall election.
