!• Letters sent to the Editor for printing , must be written in ink on one side of the paper only, and writers must send in their names and addresses in full, whether they wish these to be printed or not 2. Writers must say clearly whether or not their letters are being or have been sent to other papers. 3. F. Davies.—You should complain to the hotel management. W. K. Muir.—The Emden was a thirdclass cruiser which started a com-merce-raiding cruise from the Chinese port of Kiaochau just before war was declared in 1914. She sank 17 ships worth £2,000,000 in the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean, but was caught on November 9, 1914, at Keeling Island in the Cocos group, by H.M.A.S. Sydney, driven ashore, and burnt with heavy loss. The Seeadler was a sailing ship with auxiliary engines, commanded by von Luckner. Details of her career and Count von. Luckner’s escape can be found in “The Sea Devil,” by Lowell Thomas. There is additional material about von Luckner’s escape in the scow Moa in 'Shipwrecks—New Zealand Disasters.” by C. W. N. Ingram and P. O. Wheatley (page 488). •
