PUBLIC INSPECTION OF SHIP
ARRANGEMENTS FOR THIS AFTERNOON
Visitors to the Australian aircraftcarrier Sydney this afternoon will not be allowed to smoke on board. Throughout the ship are dangerous areas where highly-volatile aviation fuel is stored. The carier will be open for inspection by the public from 2 p.m. to '4 pan. Special trains will be run to and from Lyttelton between 12.40 pm. and 5 p.m. All persons wishing to look at the ship will follow a certain route, and they are advised that when they enter the hanger where there are a Sea Fury a Firefly, and a helicopter, they should* have a good look because they will not be allowed to go back. Neither will they be permitted to wander at will through the ship, as many of the working and fighting spaces are also living spaces for the crew. The island on the starboard side of the ship is out of bounds, and visitors will not be allowed to make an internal inspection of the bridge superstructure. They are permitted to make the most of the flight deck as a promenade and vantage point during the afternoon.
