U.S. TOURISTS TO NEW ZEALAND
TRADE SAID TO HAVE BEEN KILLED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 26. New Zealand had successfully killed the American tourist trade, and a great number of the most important United States travel organisations would not have any part in promoting traffic to New Zealand and Australia, said the publicity manager of Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd. (Mr Robert Allender) to the Auckland Business Men’s Association today. “For nearly 10 years we have been warned that unless we did something about our hotels we would kill the American tourist trade. And now we’ve done it,” he said.
“We would be well advised not to encourage American visitors too actively until we can give them what they want—good service, a private bathroom, and civilised meal hours,” he said.
Every year, said Mr Allender, more and more Australians came to New Zealand. Fortunately, 'most of their hotels are worse than New Zealand hotels, “But every year we have to put more and more of them into bad accommodation,’.’ he said. . said that unless New Zealand built hotels quickly within three years, th? Austrahan trade might be as blighted as the trade from America.
