ASSEMBLY HALL FOR SCHOOL
PAPANUI BOARD ASKS FOR PLAN
It seemed apparent that construction of the new assembly hall at the Papaniii High School would be Started as soon as plans were approved by the school board of governors, said Professor H. J. Hopkins at a meeting of the board yesterday. Professor Hopkins, who represents the board on the Post-primary Schools’ Council, was reporting on a meeting with the Administrative Assistant Director of Education (Mr C. G. S. Ellis) and the council last month.
“Another impression I had at the meeting was that plans for the hall would be sent from the department
very soon,** Professor Hopkins said. To speed up the building of assembly halls, the department was working on an adjustable type of plan, known as the Henderson plan, and it had been suggested that this should be adapted for the Papanui High School. On the motion of Professor Hopkins, it was decided to write to the department and ask for drawings of the Henderson plan, unadapted, so that the board could consider them before any adjustments were made. “We are absolutely in the dark about the Henderson plan at the present time,” said the chairman (Mr F. L. Drury). “This is an urgent matter and I feel it is necessary to hold a special meeting to consider the inforrfiation when we receive it,” said Mr R. H. McDonald.
